Singer Songwriter Rebecca Chapa writes from the heart. Rebecca has always been a musician but started playing guitar and writing her own songs when inspiration began to hit. Her style is a mix of folk, Americana, country with a hint of spirituality. Chapa’s songs have the tendency to grab you. A published wine and spirits writer she is not afraid to take you on a lyrical journey through the forest (Sleepwalking), out to sea (Gotta Go To Sea) or just to the grocery store (The Pork Song). Whether she evokes emotion, inspiration, or her good-natured sense of humor you will not be bored. Add her professionally trained melodic voice and you will find something that resonates with you.

Additionally Chapa plays select cover songs from artists and songwriters that inspire her such as Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss and The Band Perry. Don’t expect a tired old sing along of Dylan songs… Chapa tries to keep it interesting.

Rebecca grew up in Westchester County, New York born to a Polish/Lithuanian mother far removed from her cultural heritage, and a Mexican father who came to the United States as part of the Bracero Program when he was 13. Despite his heritage and the fact that the family owned Mexican restaurants, Chapa’s childhood was devoid of musical influences from both cultures other than listening to the mariachis at their Sunday dinners at the restaurant. Still her childhood was steeped with music.

Chapa’s musical journey was also guided by her mother’s love of traditional music, the love of her maternal grandfather for classical compositions. She was especially inspired by a tour with her high school choir and conductor, Nancy Zarowin to France and Belgium. The unique style ranged from singing the spiritual “Ain’a That Good News” at Sacre Coeur in Paris to participation in a Latin Mass at Chartres Cathedral. She also made it into the elite chorus at Cornell University during some of her time there.

This diverse background makes Chapa’s music hard to define yet accessible to multiple ears. She has an innate spirituality but without being preachy. She loves the purity of bluegrass and the truth presented in the lyrics of country music. As a writer her honesty shines through each piece she writes. She is comfortable knowing that what she writes will resonate differently in every listener and just hopes that it will touch a chord in each and every one.

Chapa has been a featured artist at Ireland’s 32, 50 Mason Lounge and Bazaar Café in San Francisco and has performed at Sea Dog Brew Pub and Cisco Brewers on Nantucket. She is currently featured as the #2 Country artist on ReverbNation.com for San Francisco.
